A complete wonderstrike from the skipper would set the tone after Wanderers’ fast start, as a long ball over the top allowed youngster Josh Hebert making his first ever National League South start to knock the ball back on his head to Charlie Carter. The prolific midfielder did the rest, as he needed one touch on the half volley to loop the ball over the head of Max Harris and into the top left corner from the edge of the box. 1-0
The red and whites continued to pile on the pressure with loanee Jack Young finding space on the edge of the box and sending one just past the post. He wouldn’t be denied for long however, as he met a Dennon Lewis cross deep from the left to glance in into the bottom corner for his first goal for the Wanderers since returning to the club. 2-0
Limited chances arrived for the visitors, Harry Kite & Scott Wilson both tried attempts of their own to get their side level, however with both efforts dragged wide, Harrison Foulkes wasn’t to be threatened just yet.
Dominance would continue for the home side as both Brennan Camp & Josh Hebert had loose efforts of their own from distance, but although they didn’t find the target both of them helped the Wands have a firm grip on the game at the break.
HALF-TIME: DORKING WANDERERS 2-0 WESTON-SUPER MARE
With Wanderers in the driving seat after the first period, the second of three teamtalks saw Wanderers start off well again, however their advantage was halved six minutes after the restart when Callum Woods’ cross was met by Harrison Foulkes who unfortunately flicked onto the back of Tony Craig’s head and slowly rolled in to his dismay. 2-1
However the comeback would be completed just thirty seconds later after Luke Coulson delivered deep from the left with his cross fortunately taking a deflection off a Dorking body on the way towards Louis Britton who headed home for two apiece. 2-2
The action wasn’t done there however as although we might’ve seen a goal of the season contender from Charlie Carter in the first half, Jack Young arrived in style for his second as he pounced on the edge of the box to send an absolute thunderbolt curling out of Harris’ reach and into the top left corner. On his first start back at Meadowbank since April, what a way to reintroduce yourself to the Wanderers faithful. 3-2
It could’ve been four just moments later as an extremely well taken run from debutant & substitute Jake Lawrence who drove past two visiting defenders before forcing Harris to parry one into the path of James McShane, who couldn’t convert on the follow up.
A late surge from the visitors nearly grabbed them a valuable point, Louis Britton had two brilliant opportunities of his own from free-kicks just outside the box, repelled brilliantly by Foulkes in the Wanderers’ net.
With plenty of momentum brushed aside by the defence of Louis Storey, Tony Craig & Brennan Camp late on, it would be a valuable 3 points gained for Wanderers to take into this Saturday on the road.
