We are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Josh Barrett, 27, from Aldershot Town.
Barrett, pictured above in our new 26/27 home shirt, began his career with Reading FC, signing his first professional contract in October 2015. Five months later, he made his professional debut as a substitute away to Huddersfield Town. As a youngster, he also featured at international level for the Republic of Ireland, making 19 appearances from U16 to U21 level and scoring four goals across multiple age groups.
His time in Berkshire included loan spells with Coventry City and Aldershot Town, as well as a brace in blue and white during an EFL Cup victory over Plymouth Argyle.
At the beginning of 2020, Josh made the move from Berkshire to Somerset, signing a two-and-a-half-year contract with Bristol Rovers. Following nine appearances during the following season, it was announced that Barrett would depart the club before joining National League side King’s Lynn Town, where he went on to score 15 goals in 86 appearances.
In January 2024, he returned to Aldershot Town, where he picked up the Fans’ Player of the Season award and capped off a fantastic campaign by scoring the third goal in their FA Trophy Final victory under the Wembley arch. Eighty-one appearances and 23 goals later, Josh has made the decision to switch to Meadowbank and join the Wanderers.
Fans will remember some fantastic goals scored by Josh at Meadowbank, including his FA Cup brace for Aldershot at Meadowbank last season.
On making the move to RH4, Josh said:
“I’m absolutely delighted to be here. I want to say a huge thanks to Marc for the opportunity and showing a lot of love towards myself. I’m very excited for the season to start and look forward to meeting you all!”

Manager and Chairman Marc White added:
“I feel like Wanderers fans like watching exciting players, and I think they can all agree that Josh (Barrett) is as exciting as it gets. Joining a footballing side that gets lots of final-third actions, we can expect to see a lot of magic from Josh during the season, and we are flattered that he has chosen to join us over and above a host of clubs.
The Wanderers have recruited a real footballing genius.”
