We are delighted to announce the acquisition of left-footed defender Charlie Sayers following his departure from Hampton & Richmond Borough.

Charlie, 22, pictured above in our new cult classic home shirt, began his career at his local sides, Billericay Town and Bowers & Pitsea, before he made the move to Southend United, breaking through at the young age of 17. In 2021, Sayers would make the switch to Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur. Despite not breaking into the first team, Charlie accumulated a number of appearances at youth level, scoring three goals in lilywhite, including a goal in the FA Youth Cup against West Bromwich Albion.

Following his release from Spurs, Sayers had brief spells at both Partick Thistle and Woking before making the move to his most recent club, Hampton & Richmond Borough. In the last National League South campaign, the young full-back made 32 appearances, including facing the Wanderers in January.

On making the move to the Wanderers, Charlie said :

“The club in itself sells it for you. This is the biggest and best club in this division by a mile. You’re going to be in a team that plays good football and should be winning the division, I’m buzzing to get started”

Manager and Chairman Marc White added:

“Charlie has a really strong pedigree, having spent so many years within a Premier League academy setup. When I watched him play, he reminded me of when we signed Sam Beard in terms of the aggression and intensity he plays with. I think that energy and youthfulness will be a huge asset for us, and there’s also plenty of development potential for Charlie in joining the club. We’re all really excited about the signing.”
