Match Preview: Dorking Wanderers vs Truro City

Match Details

Fixture: Dorking Wanderers vs Truro City Competition: Enterprise National League South Date: Monday 31 August 2026 Kick-off: 3:00pm Venue: Meadowbank Stadium, Mill Lane, Dorking, Surrey, RH4 1DX

The Preview

The Wanderers return to Meadowbank on Bank Holiday Monday as Truro City make the trip to Surrey for an intriguing early-season National League South encounter.

Dorking will be looking to turn home advantage into three points after a mixed opening to the campaign. Marc White’s side have shown both sides of their game in the opening weeks, including an impressive 3-0 away victory at AFC Totton, but were narrowly beaten 3-2 by Maidstone United in their most recent home league fixture.

Truro arrive with an unbeaten start to their league campaign, having collected four points from their opening two matches before adding another victory against Tonbridge Angels. The Cornish side therefore provide a significant test for the Wanderers, particularly given their defensive record so far.

With both sides looking to establish themselves near the top end of the division, three points at Meadowbank could prove valuable as the season begins to take shape.

The Opposition

Truro City, often known simply as The White Tigers, are one of the most established clubs in Cornwall and have become familiar opponents for Dorking in recent National League South campaigns.

The club’s recent history has included an impressive rise to the National League. Truro were crowned National League South champions in 2024/25 and earned promotion to the National League, before returning to Step 2 for the 2026/27 campaign. The club have previously competed at National League South level on eight occasions.

Their return to the division has begun positively. Truro opened their league campaign with a 2-0 home victory over Maidenhead United, followed that with a goalless draw at Chelmsford City, and then recorded another 2-0 victory away at Tonbridge Angels.

That makes Monday’s meeting a particularly interesting contest: Dorking possess plenty of attacking quality, while Truro have already demonstrated their defensive qualities.

The Current Picture

After four league matches, Dorking sit on four points, with one win, one draw and two defeats. The Wanderers have scored five goals and conceded four.

The opening weeks have produced some contrasting performances. Dorking suffered a 1-0 defeat to Dagenham & Redbridge on the opening day before drawing 0-0 at Maidenhead United. They then produced one of their best performances of the campaign so far, beating AFC Totton 3-0 away from home, before a 3-2 home defeat to Maidstone United.

Truro’s league record is considerably more consistent. Their opening three results have produced two victories and a draw, with the White Tigers yet to concede a league goal in those matches. They defeated Maidenhead 2-0, drew 0-0 at Chelmsford and won 2-0 at Tonbridge Angels.

For Dorking, the challenge will be turning the attacking promise shown at AFC Totton into another positive result at home.

Team News

The latest medical update provides several positive developments.

Dan Pybus is expected to return this weekend after having his workload managed, while Harry Forster has also been building towards full fitness, with his workload carefully managed after he missed a significant period of pre-season. Isaac Philpot has recovered from his ankle injury and is completing a managed return to full match fitness.

Harry Pinchard has entered the final stages of his return-to-play programme and has completed his first involvement in full training, with an expected return in early to mid-September.

Josh Taylor and Jimmy Muitt remain on course for October returns, while Dan Gallagher is expected back towards the end of October.

Players to Watch

Dawid Rogalski

The summer signing has already made an impact since arriving from Walton & Hersham.

Rogalski scored 27 goals in 49 appearances during the 2025/26 season and had already established himself as one of the most prolific forwards in non-league football. Across his career, he has 127 goals in 255 appearances according to the club’s signing announcement.

His first Wanderers goal came in the 3-0 victory at AFC Totton, where he rounded off an impressive team performance with a composed finish.

Alfie Rutherford

A proven goalscorer at this level, Rutherford remains one of Dorking’s biggest attacking threats.

His movement and ability to run beyond defenders caused problems at AFC Totton, including the incident that resulted in the hosts being reduced to ten men before Dorking added their third goal.

Truro’s Defence

The collective defensive unit deserves attention after Truro’s excellent start. The White Tigers entered the fixture having kept three consecutive league clean sheets, conceding no goals against Maidenhead, Chelmsford or Tonbridge Angels.

That makes Dorking’s attacking movement and creativity particularly important on Monday afternoon.

Previous Meetings

The fixture has produced some close encounters in recent seasons.

One of the most memorable recent meetings came in November 2024, when the sides played out a 0-0 draw at Meadowbank. Despite the scoreline, the game was littered with chances. Truro created one of the game’s clearest chances when Tyler Harvey’s header was brilliantly saved, while Dorking also had opportunities to break the deadlock.

The most recent meeting at Truro in August 2024 went Dorking’s way, with the Wanderers recording a 2-1 victory.

The Tactical View

The biggest tactical question could be whether Dorking can find a way through a Truro side that has been extremely difficult to break down.

The Wanderers will want to impose their possession-based style and make use of the movement of Rutherford, Rogalski and the players around them. Against AFC Totton, Dorking repeatedly found opportunities through quick combinations and deliveries from wide areas.

At the other end, Truro’s early-season clean-sheet record means Dorking will need patience. Avoiding unnecessary turnovers will also be important, particularly if Truro look to counter after regaining possession.
